Chia Seed: Nutritional Powerhouse
If there’s one thing I learned for sure in high school, it’s that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about nutrition, it’s that the chia seed is the powerhouse of my life. No kidding! Living a little more reliant on th
e veg than the meat has led me to get way more creative with what fuels me. These little machines are something that I include in my diet nearly every day! Why?…
2 Tablespoons of Chia Seeds:
- 64% more potassium than a banana
- 2x the antioxidants of blueberries
- 41% of your daily fiber
- 5x more calcium than milk
- 2x more omega 3 fatty acids than salmon
- 3x more iron than spinach
So now that you know what they’re good for, how the heck do you eat them?! Well, my two favorite ways are in my overnight oats and chia pudding! Overnight oats are just the most fun creation to add some seeds and nuts to for a nutrition boost and flavor! You barely taste the difference.
Chia pudding is similar to the overnight oats, just no oats! This makes it a lower carb option that’s good for breakfast or dessert (YUM!). Seeds can also be added on top of salads and in some homemade protein/granola bars. It’s all up to your creation and what you like!
No matter what way you add them in to your diet, chia seeds are a total GAMECHANGER!
